Surrounded by the salty sea, Ameland offers an abundance of produce straight from nature. Enjoy fresh fish from the North Sea and Wadden Sea and meat from cattle and lambs grazing on the salty meadows. The dunes provide rabbits, the mud flats offer samphire, sea lavender, cockles and oysters, the local mill grinds grains and mustard seeds. In addition, the cranberry, a super-healthy berry loved for its unique taste and nutritional value, grows on Ameland.

Ameland rye bread and icecream
Bakkerij de Jong serves delicious Amelander Rye Bread, made with rye grown on Amelander fields. And the ice cream? That is made with fresh farmer's milk from the island. Come and taste
Ameland farm cheese and farmers' ice cream
Right in the centre of Hollum is the cheese farm. Here, Johannes and Sanne make the most delicious Amelander cheeses and delectable farmhouse ice cream. Come and taste
Ameland beer and cranberry liqueur
For more than 10 years, Doeke and Eva Visser have been brewing the most delicious Amelander beers in their traditional brewery. Come and taste
Ameland beef Ytsma
Worstenmakerij Dennis Ytsma's beef dry sausage is made from natural beef from Hereford cows that have walked all year in the nature reserve between Nes and Ballum. Come and taste

Taste the 100% organic meat and 100% natural and creamy milk from the Blaarkop cows of Bioboerderij Ameland. Come and taste
Ameland rapeseed oil
At Corn and Oil Mill the Phenix in Nes, rapeseed oil has been struck since early 2022. Come and taste
Ameland potatoes
A stone's throw from the salty Wadden Sea on the edge of the beautiful village of Nes, Martijn Beijaard grows his Amelander potatoes every year. Come and taste
Amelander musterd
On the Amelander fields where the seagulls fly overhead, the mustard seeds are sown, grown and harvested, after which the mill in Hollum grinds them into the most delicious mustard. Come and taste
Ameland catfish
Amid green meadows, on the east side of the village of Buren, lies the catfish farm. At this site, brothers Martin and Peter Metz farm catfish. Come and taste
Ameland clams, mullet fillet and sea bass
The traditional set nets on the mud flats and the North Sea catch the beautiful silver scaled Amelander sea bass and mullet. Come and taste
Amelander chicory coffee
Taste the Amelander Chichori coffee at the Amelander Koffiehuys. Here you can further enjoy home-roasted coffee as coffee to go or just to brew at home. Come and taste
Ameland mint
There are two Amelander Mint: The wild Amelander Mint and The Amelander Mint which is descended from the Moroccan Mint. They are grown in the open ground in the yard of a centuries-old farm. Come and taste
Ameland beef croquets
The Amelander beef croquettes are rightly unique in the world and are made with love and attention by Danny Wijnberg in Hollum. Come and taste
Ameland dune rabbit
Ameland is home to wild rabbits that have become a true islander delicacy. More info

Then let your taste buds do the work on a tour of ‘Amelands Produkt’. On this tour, you will cycle from east to west and back, with a pit stop in all villages. Taste that award-winning sausage from Buren, drink beer in Ballum made from Ameland barley and hops, or spread a slice of bread in which an extra ounce of love has been put in as well as wheat. Flour and musterd
Is ground at the mill
The corn and mustard mill De Verwachting is located in Hollum. Flour and mustard are ground in the mill. And the nice thing is; during turning days, you can attend the grinding of flour or the making of mustard!
Flour grinding:

- Thursday 13:30 - 16:00
- Saturday 13:30 - 16:00
Mustard grinding:
- Once a fortnight on Wednesdays 13:00- 16:00.
- In July and August every Wednesday 13:00-16:00.

TV programme "Binnenste Buiten"(Inside Out)
Chef Ramon from the KRO-NCRV programme Binnenste Buiten visited Eva and Doeke of the Amelander Bierbrouwerij. One of the beers they brew is flavoured with cranberries.
Wool machines
At the Agricultural and Beachcombers Museum Swartwoude, the wool machines used to turn the wool from Amelander sheep into the sustainable products made from Amelander wool are on display.

Taste the rich history of the Amelander Babbelaar, born on Ameland during a winter evening full of conviviality. At the Stammtisch, where Jaap and his mates were having a cosy drink by a small lamp, the idea was born to put together their own drink, butter sweet. More info

So many Amelander regional products, of course you want to enjoy them from home! And you can! Because we have some delicious recipes for you:
Stew with mustard and beer
Ingredients for 4 people:
- 1200 grams of Amelander beef
- 3 bottles of Amelander dark brown beer
- 2 tbsp Amelander mustard
- 2 slices of brown bread
- 1 dash of vinegar
- 2 onions
- 2 bay leaves
- butter
- pepper
- salt
Amelander mustard soup
Ingredients for 4 people:
- 3 tablespoons Amelander Mustard
- 1 shallot
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1/2 litre chicken stock
- 1/2 litre cooking cream
- dash of white wine (tip: Pearl of Ameland)
- freshly milled white pepper
- Wadden Sea salt
Origins of Ameland Produkt
In the early 1990s, a few entrepreneurs wanted to make products with raw materials from Ameland that were sustainably grown. In 1998, this led to a collaboration between Anton Nagtegaal (potatoes), Douwe Borsch (goats), Jan Kienstra (beekeeper) and Simon Kanger (cheese). They were the first to sell their products under the name ‘Waddengoud’.
The Waddengoud foundation guided them and gave them the hallmark ‘Amelands Produkt,’ recognisable by the yellow-and-blue flag with the lighthouse. After a few years, new partners joined. In 2005, Joop de Jong and Jan Pattje added their Ameland mustard, and a year later Vishandel Metz (mullet) and Bakkerij de Jong (rye bread) joined in.
With support from the Province of Fryslân and the Municipality of Ameland, the Amelands Produkt Foundation was set up in 2010 to promote these products. The number of producers is still growing and restaurants can now also become members.
