On Wadden island Ameland there are a number of different (beach) wheelchairs which are available free of charge for guests with restricted mobility.
De Tiralo
De Tiralo is a special beach wheelchair. The drawbar and the yellow armrests as floats make it possible for the user to enter the sea. Assistance will remain necessary, since safety is paramount! This beach wheelchair can be found at the beach crossings from Hollum, Nes and Buren.
From June 15th through September 15th, Tiralo beach wheelchairs can be obtained at the KNRM (lifeguard) stations. Reserving these wheelchairs is not possible. The wheelchair is supposed to be used for the shortest amount of time possible in order to accommodate as many users as possible. KNRM staff will be very happy to help where needed.
From September 16th through June 14th this wheelchair is not in use.
