Wadden Sea World Heritage

Since 2014 the whole Wadden Sea is on the UNESCO World Heritage site. In 2009 the Wadden area of the Netherlands and Germany were already on this list, and in 2014 the part of Denmark became part of it as well.

Why is the Wadden Sea on the UNESCO World Heritage site?
To become on the UNESCO World Heritage site, an area has to be very special. The Wadden Sea so special: With its channels, sandbanks, mudflats, mud, dunes and stretches of sea grass the wadden area attracts many thousands of birds and sea animals. The dynamics that derive because of high- and low tide makes this unique area not only attractive for many plant- and animal species, but also for the people. That's why it attracts many visitors.
