Ameland honey - Amelands Produkt - Tourist Information

Ameland honey

Gorgeous Ameland with its many nature areas has a phenomenal diversity in flowering plants, flowers, and trees.

Many bees are attracted to all this fragrant and flowering beauty, which explains that there are various beekeepers on the island. And because a bee does not cross the water, the island of Ameland is therefore ideally suited to developing purebred bee colonies. On Ameland, that is the Buckfast breed.

Beekeeper Jan Wijnberg from Hollum has many bee populations in beehives which he places on a variety of spots on this beautiful island in the summer.

The Ameland bees make a smooth, sweet, mildly salty honey from the flowering plants growing in that specific area where Jan placed his hives. These busy bees are undisputedly the best creators of the delicious sea lavender honey, "Galgesloat heuning", and many other unique types of honey.
