Open Monument Day

In addition, in Nes the De Phenix mill and the Ameland Culture Museum are open, and in Hollum the De Verwachting mill and Sorgdrager museum. You can recognize the open buildings by the flag with the Open Monument Day logo.

Heritage and architecture
This year, the theme Heritage and Architecture is central. There is special attention for two Amelanders who were important in the world of construction and architecture:

• Foppe de Jong (1855-1947), contractor and entrepreneur on Ameland
• Willem Cornelis de Groot (1853-1939), born in Hollum, one of the most important Frisian architects at the beginning of the 20th century

Stories by Ameland Vertel!
The group Ameland Vertel! brings stories to life on Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14:

• in the Sorgdrager museum in Hollum
• in the Sint Clemens church in Nes

Start: 14:00 and 15:30.

Tours
In Hollum, Ballum, and Nes, guided tours take place on both days through the protected village view.

• Participation is free, no registration required

Official opening
On Saturday, September 13 at 10:00, William Beijaard, director of the Ameland Museums Foundation (STAM), will open the Open Monument Days by raising the flag at the Ameland Culture Museum (Kerkplein 1) in Nes. You are warmly welcome to attend this.

Practical
All activities are free. Participating museums are freely accessible this weekend. Visitors with a Museum Card can bring it along.
